	From  "OFF THE RECORD" :    Jack and Vic Chinn are mentioned as the owners       of the only surviving sound recording of the    Crickets' TV appearance on ATV's "Sunday Night      at the London Palladium" on March 2nd 1958.

                                            Where to begin...

Well in it all began for me and my brother Jack in 1957, when 'That'll Be The

Day' came out. I bought 3-4 four 78's of the song as they kept getting broken

at the youth club and at parties.

I was 16 going on 17, and Jack was 3 years younger. We were both learning

to play guitar.

We played together occasionally but mainly we went our own ways,

musically speaking, but we both loved Rock'n'Roll, and then we heard Buddy

was going to be on the tv on the programme Sunday Night at the London

Palladium.

At that time I was working in an electrical store and got Jack a reel to reel

tape recorder. So on the night Buddy was on we set up the recorder and

held the mic up by the tv.

Now this was the 50's and the tv progs were in black and white or should I

say gray and white and always a lot of interference, anyway to us as

teenagers watching the Crickets, it was a first, and we were enthralled, but

it was over so quickly.

And of course Buddy was dead less than a year later, I can still remember

the day clearly from all those years ago. I was still at the electrical store

and heard the news on the radio and in the papers. It was very saddening.

In 1962 Jack belonged to the BHAS run by John Beecher and sent John a

copy of the tape, He also sent a copy to Mr and Mrs Holley. He had a nice

letter back from Mrs Holley and she sent us $2 dollars to pay for the

postage, which was very kind of her as obviously we didn't ask to be paid

for the priviledge of sending the tape.

Jack gave me a dollar and I still have it.

Alas neither the tape or the letter or Jack's dollar where ever found in Jack's

possessions after his death in 2000.  I heard a bootlegged LP from in the

80's which had pirated versions of the same tape.

Since 1959 I have played Buddy's songs and from 1985 to 2005 I had a

band called "The Rock 'n' Roll Buddies", as we were all buddies and loved

Buddy's music.
