Buddy Holly's mother ELLA HOLLEY loved to have contacts all over the globe to fans of her late son Buddy. So she wrote a letter to Germany in December, 1968 with Season's Greetings and more . . . .
Da Buddy's Mutter ELLA HOLLEY gerne Kontakt mit Fans ihres verstorbenen Sohnes Buddy Holly in aller Welt hatte, schrieb sie im Dezember 1968 in Lubbock/TX folgenden Brief nach Deutschland:
" Dear Gerd.
We could not let this Chrismas go by without sending a greeting to wish you a lot of happiness.
We enjoyed the nice letter from you in the summer and we were really interested in the tape you sent with the different version of "Rock With Ollie Vee" ...
Mr. Holley has played it many times and we agree with you that it is a different version . . .
You see Buddy went to Nashville early in his career and while in a record session there he did this and several other songs that Decca Records kept and we think that is where this version of "Ollie Vee" came from.
We really appreciate the interest you take in this and other things pertaining to Buddy and we want you to know that we will never forget Buddy's many friends in Germany and the things you are doing to keep his name alive and going.
We have been intending to make a tape and send back to you, but since we were away from home most of the summer and when we came back, we had a lot of work behind that we had to catch up so perhaps you will understand . . as you said you had been very busy also.
I thought you might like to have a list of the songs that will be in the new album to be released in January . . .
The record company has agreed to release this one at the same time of the release in the U.S. and we hope they do. Actually the foreign fans are entitled to get them first, because of their support and loyalty to Buddy.
The last few years has seen an increase in Buddy's fans in the States and also recognition of his influence on other singers, but even the credit for this belongs to his fans in Germany and England.
A list of the songs in the new album To be released in January "GIANT" . . BUDDY HOLLY .. This last number is a tune Buddy picked out and used to play a lot in his spare time around home. We gave it the 'Holly Hop' title and decided to put it in the album so his fans could have it.
Once again, thanks for the tape and for all the other nice things you have done in regard to Buddy. We will still make the tape and send you . . if you would like to have it.
We would enjoy hearing from you again just anytime
you have the time to write.
We wish you a very happy Christmas and New Year ! "
Mrs. + Mr. Holley
John Beecher, well respected Buddy historian worldwide and President of Rollercoaster Records, sent me a mail to the above mentioned topic "Ollie Vee", that's quite interesting for all Buddy fans, here are parts of his mail:
John Beecher, weltweit hoch geachteter Buddy Holly Experte und Präsident der Rollercoaster Records, schickte mir eine Mail zu dem oben angesprochenen Thema "Ollie Vee", die sehr interessant für alle Fans von Buddy ist, hier sind Auszüge daraus:
20th of September, 2005
" Dear Hans,
Mike Bell gave me your email address. I looked at your site again and was pleased to see my old friend from 1961, Gerd Muesfeldt, is mentioned - as you know he was the guy who sent a request to AFN in Germany in the 60s to play Ollie Vee and they played the sax version, which until then, everyone including Norman Petty and Buddy's parents, had forgotten (as you know it only appeared on a 45 in the US).
" Lieber Hans,
Mike Bell gab mir Deine eMail-Adresse.
He taped it off the air and I sent a copy to Norman. Norman asked for the master tape from Decca intending to include it on the Showcase album but they sent him the wrong version and amazingly he didn't notice the difference! (they sent the one that is on the That'll Be The Day album). Decca later claimed they had lost the sax version. Thats why Ollie Vee (wrong version) is on the Showcase LP.
(sie schickten ihm die Version von dem That'll Be The Day Album).
It wasn't until 1975 that I got the right tape out of Coral - they had
I don't think Gerd knew about this. All this is silly now but you might
like to pass it on to Gerd.
Ich glaube nicht, daß Gerd dies weiß. All dies ist blöd gelaufen, leite dies doch
bitte an Gerd weiter.
Thanks for your good work ! "
Danke für Deine gute Arbeit ! "
