  The Maltese archipelago is located about 100 km south of Sicily in the middle of

  the Mediterranean Sea and belongs to Europe.

  2004:  1st of May Malta becomes an official member of the European Union and

  is now the smallest country in the European Union.

  2008:  The Euro is the official currency.

	Familie und Buddy Holly sind sein Leben: David Agius aus Malta

Am 17.11.2009 bekam ich eine E-Mail aus Malta (siehe oben). David,

großer Fan von Buddy Holly & The Crickets, schrieb mir, dass er vom

Jahr 1963 bis in's Jahr 1993 in Australien lebte. Seit 1956 fährt er auf

unser gemeinsames Idol ab, hört seine Platten und sammelt alles, was

er finden kann. Buddy Holly hat er nie gesehen, aber die Crickets 1987

in Sydney bei einem Konzert. Im Australischen Radio und Fernsehen

ist er in Sachen Buddy mehrfach auf Sendung gewesen.

In Malta setzt David Agius diese Tradition fort. Der 7. September und

der 3. Februar sind dank seiner Mithilfe im Maltesischen Radio + TV

Buddy Holly Tage incl. dessen Lebensgeschichte und Hinweis auf meine

deutsche Fanseite für Buddy.

Ich habe ihm angeboten, etwas über ihn selbst, Malta und sein Hobby zu

berichten. Dieses Angebot hat David mit Begeisterung angenommen.

You asked me to give you some information regarding Buddy Holly: 

My name is David Agius, or better known as the number 1. Buddy Holly

fan in Malta. It all started way back in 1957, when I was still living in

Malta. 

I was listening to the rediffusion and I heard the song 'That'll be the day'. 

I knew from the start that it was a different song from the rest of the

songs that I was listening to.  I then found out that it was a singer by the

name of Buddy Holly.  When I first saw his face on the newspaper, I knew

that he was not Elvis or Paul Anka. He looked like the man next door

wearing glasses.

Du hast mich gefragt nach einigen Infos betreffend Buddy Holly:

Mein Name ist David Agius, besser bekannt als Buddy's Fan Nr. 1 in Malta.

Es begann alles 1957 in Malta. Im Radio hörte ich "That'll be the day".

Dieser Song war anders als all die anderen, das wusste ich sofort. Ich fand

den Namen des Sängers  ( Buddy  Holly )  heraus.  Als ich sein Gesicht

erstmals in der Zeitung sah, war mir klar, dass das nicht Elvis oder Paul

Anka war.  Er sah wirklich aus wie "der Junge von nebenan" mit Brille.

As time passed by, I started hearing songs like 'Oh Boy', 'Rave On', 'Maybe Baby' and 'Peggy Sue'.  It was in February 3rd, 1959 that I heard about the death of this singer, and I wanted to learn more about this singer. 

It was when I emigrated with my family to Australia in 1963 - it was December of that year and I was in a record store, when I heard 'Everyday', which I had never heard before.  I thought it was a Christmas song.  I asked about the song, and learnt that it was Buddy Holly's.

Die Zeit verging, ich hörte "Oh Boy", "Rave On", "Maybe Baby" und "Peggy Sue". Am 3.2.1959 hörte ich von Buddy's Tod und wollte mehr über ihn wissen. 1963 übersiedelte meine Familie nach Australien.

Im Dezember dieses Jahrer war ich in einem Plattenladen und hörte erstmals "Everyday". Hörte sich für mich wie ein Weihnachtslied an. Ich fragte nach und erfuhr, dass der Song von Buddy war.

I started buying all the records of Buddy Holly that I could get my hands on. From that time on, I became a Buddy Holly and the Crickets fanatic. My biggest excitement was when I went to see the Crickets and met them backstage in 1987.

Ich begann, alle Buddy - Platten zu kaufen, deren ich habhaft wurde. Von da an wurde ich ein Buddy Holly and the Crickets Fan. Mein größtes Erlebnis war der Auftritt der Crickets 1987, die ich danach persönlich hinter der Bühne traf.
