     Es war schon einige Zeit bekannt, dass die Stadt Lubbock plante, die Buddy

     Holly Statue vor dem La Quinta Hotel zu entfernen, da dringende Reparaturen

     am Wassernetz unter dem bisherigen Standplatz anstanden. Dennoch war

     es für viele ein Schock, zu sehen, wie alle Ehrentafeln abmontiert und dann

     die Buddy - Statue abtransportiert wurde. Sie soll vollständig restauriert und

     dann in einem neu anzulegenden Buddy und Maria Elena Holly Plaza aufgestellt

     werden, direkt gegenüber vom Buddy Holly Center. Man bedenke, dass die

     Statue, zu der Fans aus aller Welt pilgern, 30 Jahre an ihrem Platz stand und

     der Zahn der Zeit sowie entweder Vandalen oder "Fans" gemeinsam einiges

     zum Negativen verändert haben. Es soll evtl. möglich sein, die Statue zu

     sehen, während sie von Grund auf überholt und repariert wird.

      What looks like a vacant lot now will look much different in a month or

       two as it becomes the Buddy and Maria Elena Holly Plaza.

      It'll be the new home for the Buddy Holly statue and Walk of Fame.

       Until then, those items aren't out in public.

      "We're relocating the Buddy Holly statue for the City of Lubbock and in

       that process we're going to fix some repairs that need to be done,"

       says Steven Teeters, owner of Texas Bronze. "This statue is 30 years

       old and it was put in back in 1980."

      Holly is remembered every day in Lubbock with a street named after

       him, a museum, and a huge statue along with a walk of fame. People

       travel from all over the world to walk through the Buddy Holly Center,

       just to get a glimpse of their favorite musician's life.

      Even though the statue has been taken down fans still have a chance

      to see it.

      "There is a group who is going to come here to the foundry, from

       overseas, just to look at this piece, even though it's being repaired,

       because they are making the trip to Lubbock because of Buddy Holly,"

       says Teeters.

      Back in June the City Council decided to demolish the statue's

       foundation in front of the civic center and relocate the Walk of Fame.

       The Walk of Fame and statue will be moved to the future site of the

       Buddy and Maria Elena Holly Plaza, across from the Buddy Holly

       Center.

      Until that new location is ready Teeters is working to make sure it

      looks as good as new.

      "Keeping this in good repairs peaks well for the City of Lubbock,"

       says Teeters.

      Buddy Holly's last performance was 51 years ago but his music still

       lives on through generations. The statue, though, hasn't made it

       through the years without some wear and tear. Teeters says he plans

       on putting a new finish on the statue and some much-needed repairs.

      "The guitar straps, people have tried to pry them loose," says Teeters.

      "And there is a couple of tuning keys on the guitar that had been

      broken off, either by vandalism or someone wanting a Buddy Holly

      souvenir. So we're going to replace those."
